Canon PIXMA MG6450 Reviews– The print test the output tray did not seem to be able to contain A4 paper, leaving printed sheets to Teeter over the edge like the bus in the Italian job. Only after the further investigation we discovered a paper stay in the front edge of the input compartment, which extends up to a stop for printed pages over which the output tray runs above. It is a similar system that used on several cheaper pixmas, but while it works pretty well it again seems more fundamental at that price.
It’s not all bad, luckily. Text printing was quite fast, reached 13.3 pages per minute, and color printing speeds were also competitive, with the printer managing 3.7 ppm when it came to print our challenging and highly illustrated business documents. Photo Printing was also quick, delivering a photo every two minutes in the highest possible quality. Like other pixmas that we’ve tested recently, scans have been pretty slow over Wi-Fi at higher quality settings: A 1, 200dpi photo Scan took more than four minutes on our wireless network. When we click on a USB connection, the 6x4in 600dpi scan speed dropped to about half a minute, with 300dpi document scans coming in about 20 seconds.
Scans and prints were equally excellent, with accurate colors, sharp details and convincingly reproduced contrast and shading even in the brightest and darkest regions. Our only criticism was that the color accuracy in photocopies was not perfect; Although this is a common problem. Mono text has been razor sharp about the range of font sizes We test while photos are among the best you will find from a home inkjet, with the additional photographic black cartridge really coming into its own.
The MG6450 has one final strength: it accepts high-performance versions of all five ink tanks, which contain both dye-based black for photo printing and pigmented black for sharp mono text on standard paper. The support for high-performance cartridges means that the mono operating costs a reasonable 2.3 p per page, and the color costs are low at 5.1 p, for a mixed color total of 7.4 p. It is a large MFP, although its comparatively high price and basic paper intake and output trays mean that most users do better with the cheaper Canon PIXMA MG5550 which was just slightly slower in our testing.
